Hints On A Children'S Bedroom Layout

Hints on a Children's Bedroom Layout

Children, by nature, are busy and easily distracted. Their personality and what they use the room for should be considered before completing the bedroom's layout. Consider organizing the room in sections of sleeping, dressing, playing, and studying.

The Bed

As a made-up bed makes a room look remarkably tidier, make the act of changing and straightening sheets easy on a child by providing room on both sides of the bed for him to navigate.

Nightstand

A nightstand should be placed close enough to the bed to provide a natural resting place for a reading light, a drink, a clock, a book, and a music player. Make sure the light is in easy reaching distance from the bed so the child can turn it on or off by themselves. Bookshelves can also double as nightstands.

Closet

A clothes hamper near or in the closet will minimize clothes being tossed on the floor. Make sure the bar in the closet is at the appropriate height for your child to reach by themselves. Include some shelves in the closet for less frequently used toys, sports equipment, and out of season clothes.

Belongings

Maxine Ordesky, author of "The Complete Home Organizer" recommends providing enough containers or baskets of all shapes and sizes to adequately store all the child's belongings categorically. Never mix building blocks with race cars or books. Everything should have its labeled place.

Consider space for a bookshelf. They are handy for books and collections, as well as a place to hold binders and folders for your child's papers and artwork.

Optional Furniture

For the nightly bedtime story or some time to talk, a comfortable chair for a parent is recommended in the room. Children enjoy having a place to sit while reading or playing video games as well as being able to offer a friend a place to hang out.

A desk is appropriate for children who need study time, even if they frequently study in the kitchen.

Trash is inevitable in a child's room. Make space for an attractive wastebasket by the desk, or near the bookshelf where a child's extra papers may frequent.

Space Savers

Don't forget the walls as a place to hold artwork, photos, shelves, or provide a focal point that matches the child's personality.
