Gift Basket Ideas For Donation

Gift baskets are a fun way to give to charities.

You can donate gift baskets to charities, schools and families in need. Customize the gift basket to fit the needs of its recipient. While a generic gift basket with specialty food items may be well received, a customized basket takes your donation from good to wonderful. When putting together a gift basket, come up with a theme and buy items based on that theme.

Gift Baskets for Basic Needs

Preparing a gift basket for a donation allows you to work with items that you would not normally put into a gift basket. Donated gift baskets can provide some of the necessities of life that the recipient may not have. For instance, fill a gift basket with basic toiletries like soap, toothbrushes and shampoo to benefit low-income families or local charities. Similarly, you can combine school items like notebooks, crayons, pencils and a ream of paper for a gift basket that will help the local elementary school or a family in need of school supplies.

Hobby Gift Baskets

Use hobbies as a theme for donation gift baskets. Charities, low-income families and certain schools may not be able to afford fun hobbies for their members or students. Present arts and crafts supplies in an art-themed gift basket. Sports-themed gift baskets may include tennis rackets and tennis balls, or a football and flags for flag football. A game basket that includes several different types of board and card games would be a treat for any charity or family. If you know what type of hobbies the family or charity promotes, build the gift basket around those needs.

Rest and Relaxation Gift Baskets

Spa treatments are welcomed by almost everyone. Build a donation gift basket that is spa-themed. Place towels, a gift certificate for a massage, lotions, manicure and pedicure supplies, and bath salts in the basket. Alternatively, a relaxation basket might have a movie theme. Place a DVD, microwave popcorn, a blanket and assorted candies in a basket. The recipient can then enjoy a relaxing movie night at home.

Food Gift Baskets

Food gift baskets are perennially popular, and are a great choice for donation items because most charities need or know families that need food. You can fill the basket with expensive cheeses and crackers, an assortment of chocolates or cookies, or a large assortment of basic food items like cans of soup or fruit. Think about the needs of the place to which you are donating the basket. Some charities may need basic food items, while others may welcome a fun assortment of chocolates.
