clean-a-clogged-spray-arm-in-a-ge-profile

The spray arm on a GE Profile dishwasher should flush out most residue or hard water minerals just by operating the dishwasher's cleaning cycles. Because it forces water out of the spray arm, it typically also flushes out any residue. Occasionally, food residue or hard water deposits may collect in the spray jets, requiring a thorough cleaning so they don't clog the arms and affect the performance of your dishwasher. Cleaning the spray arm requires removing the arm from the dishwasher and while most Profile-brand dishwashers have similar parts, the exact directions for removing the spray arm may vary slightly.

Instructions

1. Wait at least 20 minutes after the cycle ends before removing the spray arm from the dishwasher. The heating element needs time to cool down and may cause serious burns if you don't wait long enough.

2. Remove the spray arm from the dishwasher. Most GE Profile-brand spray arms are connected to the dishwasher with a nut. Twist the nut counterclockwise and pull the arm off of the shaft.

3. Submerge the spray arm in a sink filled with warm water and a few drops of a mild liquid dishwashing soap.

4. Clean the spray arm, particularly the jets, with a soft brush until all of the mineral deposits and other residue are removed.

5. Rinse the spray arm well under warm running water until all of the soap residue is removed.
