Stain A Teak Dining Table

Stain a Teak Dining Table

Teak is a type of tropical hardwood native to the southern regions of Asia. It's a brownish-yellow wood with a rich texture and beautiful grain. Teak is also hardy and resistant to harsh or inclement weather. Teak is a popular material for making indoor and outdoor furniture because of its durability, resistance to warping and outstanding stability. Though teak is beautiful enough in its natural state, if you have stubborn stains on your dining room table, or just want it to match your décor, applying a stain finish to this wood is easy enough to do.

Instructions

Staining Teak Furniture

1. Clean your table before adding stain and sealant. Wipe with a new, wet sponge and allow to fully dry.

2. A wood cleaner designed for teak will remove most stains and will weatherize your table in case you ever want to use it outdoors. The instructions on the bottle will tell you how much cleaner you will need for your size table and its condition.

3. Let the cleaner dry for at least three days. A damp table can look patchy after it is treated with stain.

4. Sand the entire table with 120-grit sandpaper. Be sure you do not miss any spots; if you do, the stain may look uneven after it dries.

5. Choose a stain that is designed to be used with teak wood. Ask for help at the hardware store if you're not sure which products to look at.

6. Apply the stain with a roller, paintbrush or a foam sponge. Let it dry overnight and apply a second coat. Be sure your table is completely dry before using it.
