Repair A Dripping Dual Handle Bathroom Faucet

If you have a dual-handle bathroom faucet that just keeps dripping, the culprit is often faulty washers. Taking the faucet apart to change its washers will often remedy the problem.

Instructions

1. Locate and turn off the hot and cold water supply to the faucet that you are going to work on. Once the water supply is turned off, open both the hot and cold handles on the faucet. Note: If you do not open (turn on) the handles you will not be able to get the stems out.

2. Pry the indicator caps off the top of each handle, using a standard screwdriver, and put them aside. Under the indicator caps is a set of screws (usually Phillips-head). Remove each screw. Once the screws are out, you can remove the handle by gently pulling up on each one. Once the handles are off you are left with the just the faucet stems. To remove the faucet stems, use the adjustable wrench, placing it on the grooves on the stem and turning counter-clockwise.

3. Examine the stem once you have it out. There should be two "o" rings around the side of the stem and a rubber washer on the bottom of the stem. Use the edge of your standard screwdriver, along the groove where the "o" rings sit, to remove the "o" ring. Use the Phillips screwdriver to remove the set screw that holds the washer onto the stem.

4. Insert the "o" rings and washers on the stems back into the faucet body (after removing and replacing them). Tighten down with the adjustable wrench using a clockwise motion. Re-install the handles, re-install the set screw, re-install the indicator caps, turn the faucet handles off and turn the water supply back on.
