Repair A Moen Bathroom Faucet

Moen bathroom faucets can have a single- or double-handled design, and you repair both designs in a similar manner. The faucet handle cartridge, which controls the water flow and temperature, is replaceable, and anyone with even minor experience with home repair will find it a manageable task. Allow yourself about half an hour to complete this repair, and make sure to use a cartridge designed specifically for your make and model to ensure success.

Instructions

1. Shut the water valves under the sink to prevent water from running into the faucet during the repair.

2. Remove the cap on the top of the handle by prying it off with a screwdriver. Unscrew the handle by turning the base to the left and remove it. Unscrew the cartridge stem by gripping the top with pliers and turning to the left. Remove the stem and then pull out the cartridge inside the base of the handle.

3. Insert a matching Moen cartridge inside the base to replace the cartridge you just removed. Replace the cartridge stem and then set the handle on the stem and turn the base to the left to tighten it to the base of the faucet.

4. Turn on your water and test the faucet to check for leaks. If a leak appears, disassemble the faucet and tighten the cartridge stem. Or, remove the cartridge extension and handle kit by loosening the screw at the bottom of the handle and replace with a new handle kit. Reassemble the faucet following the instructions above.
