Remove Wood From A Bedroom Wall

There are typically two kinds of wood on bedroom walls, molding -- which can come in the form or trim or chair railing, or a decorative covering like wainscoting. Whether you want to update the look of the room by removing either of these wood types or you want to replace them, it's quick and simple to remove wood from the walls. While you want to be careful to prevent damage to existing walls, homeowners of any experience level can do the job.

Instructions

1. Score the seam between the wood and the wall with a utility knife. If the wood was painted, chances are it's stuck to the wall. To prevent damage to the drywall when removing wood, scoring helps to break that seal.

2. Slide the flat edge of a pry bar gently into the seam of the trim or wainscoting. Push the pry bar away from the wall softly to pry the wood away from the drywall.

3. Remove large sections of trim by prying the wood equally along the length. Once you pry away the wood down the length of the trim, you can pull the rest of it away by hand. This method works effectively if you plan on re-using the wood trim or wainscoting.
