Decorate A Toddler Boy'S Sailor Bedroom

Create a sailor-themed bedroom for your boy.

If your boy loves the ocean or dreams of being a sailor, it's time to decorate his bedroom in a sailor theme. Decorating in a sailor theme requires more than simply placing boats in the room and painting the walls blue. Instead, take into account all the items a sailor uses on a daily basis -- for example, a lighthouse to guide his way and a map to guide him to his destination.

Instructions

1. Paint your boy's bedroom walls white with interior paint, your paintbrush and paint roller. Allow the paint to dry according to the manufacturer's directions before continuing onto the next step.

2. Hang sailor-themed framed artwork on your boy's bedroom walls. Select two walls for the sailor-themed artwork as the other wall will display other sailor-themed items.

3. Tape maps on one wall in your boy's bedroom. Every sailor needs a map to guide him on his journey. Select maps varying in sizes, shapes and colors for an added decorative appearance to the wall.

4. Dress your boy's bed with sailor-themed bedding, including bed sheets, pillow cases and a comforter. When selecting his sailor-themed bedding consider purchasing bedding with blue as the predominate color as it resembles the ocean.

5. Place sailor-themed rugs on his bedroom floor. For example, place one rug in front of his toy box and another next to his bed. Use ship motifs or a neutral to balance out the other sailor-themed items, in tan or beige.

6. Place a storage chest at the foot of your boy's bed as his personal treasure chest. Stencil "Captain" and his name on the storage chest with your stencil, stencil paint and stencil brush.

7. Hang sailor-themed curtains as the window treatment in your boy's sailor bedroom, or opt for a blue.

8. Hang a large fish net on the empty wall in his bedroom. Place a variety of fishing items in the net as a decoration on the wall. Select your decorations with his age in mind. Place the net up high enough on the wall that your child does not get tangled in it. Do not place actual fishing lures with hooks in a toddler's bedroom as this may cause injury to your child.

9. Decorate the top of this dresser with a lighthouse lamp and sailor-themed accessories including boats, small maps and fishing items.
