Use The Restroom In A Wedding Gown

Of all of the wedding-day challenges you might have anticipated as a bride, none of them will be quite as tedious as the most basic of human acts: using the bathroom--in your wedding dress. That filmy white gown might be the picture of elegance as you walk down the aisle, but you'll feel anything but elegant as you try to squeeze all those layers of pristine satin into a restroom stall. With careful planning and a little help from your friends, you can avoid pit

stop pitfalls.

Instructions

1. Take the preventative measure of avoiding too much liquid consumption. If you don't drink too much, nature might not even call during the wedding. Sipping rather than guzzling has the added bonus of keeping your lipstick intact.

2. Appoint a flower girl, junior bridesmaid or very petite bridesmaid as your bathroom attendant. Should the need arise, she can accompany you into the stall and help you lift your dress to avoid getting it dirty or worse, accidentally dunked into the toilet water.

3. Remove your crinoline before stepping into the bathroom stall. If you are wearing a garter belt to spice up the wedding night, unhook your straps as well, so there will be less fumbling around. Long veils also should be taken off prior to using the bathroom.

4. Select the handicapped stall, even if it means waiting until it's no longer in use. You'll need all the space you can get. Allow handicapped women in the bathroom to use the stall before you, even if you got to the bathroom first, since wearing an enormous white dress is not exactly a legitimate handicap.

5. Ask your appointed bathroom attendant to lift up the dress from behind, being especially careful to make sure neither the dress nor train makes contact with the toilet or the bathroom floor. Then, quickly use the toilet.

6. Wash your hands very carefully, making sure not to splatter water on your dress, which could dry very slowly due to the delicate fabric.

7. Step back into your crinoline once outside the stall, resnap garter straps and replace your veil, if desired. If you've grown sweaty from the ordeal, do a loose powder touch-up. Then return to the reception and enjoy the rest of your wedding.
