When buying bedroom décor for kids, you'll have a multitude of choices. Here are a few tips to consider before you buy.
Choosing a theme
Consider working a theme into the room, such as music.
Boy, girl, or gender neutral decor
While the gender of your child will most likely dictate the preferred colors, consider using gender-neutral décor. For example, paint walls off-white, yellow and pale green. Brown furniture fits well into the décor of any gender or age. This would be a good alternative for someone who has a wide range of likes and hobbies.
Age appropriate decor
Choose items that will still work as the child gets older. For example, consider choosing a plain brown dresser set instead of one built around the theme of a favorite cartoon character.
Safety
Keep anything sharp or breakable out of the reach of young children. Avoid having a standup mirror as children can easily pull it over. In addition, make sure all of the items in your children's rooms have never been part of a recall. See resources to check if you own a recalled item.
Your child's opinion
Give your children a say in what will be in their room. Let them help choose colors and themes, as well as the décor.
