Design A Princess Bedroom

Children love the world of fantasy and enjoy imagining the fairytale life of castles, dragons, knights and princesses. A princess-themed bedroom is a natural choice for children who like the world of happily ever after. With some splashes of color, a few choice pieces and a bit of sweat, you will have a bedroom fit for a princess.

Instructions

1. Start with color. Designing for a princess bedroom can incorporate the classic shades of pink and lavender, but you can also consider jewel tones such as turquoise, jade, ruby red and amethyst. Metallic shades of silver, gold, bronze and copper add a regal air to the bedroom.

2. Add some accent colors. The frilly princess look can be achieved with accents of antique white, pale peach or floral patterns. The designer princess look can have frothy pink anchored by a poppy orange, or lavender grounded with light brown trim. The modern princess enjoys sleek white, sea-foam green or groovy paisley.

3. Bling out the bed. It would not be a princess bedroom without some kind of ornamentation or drapery adding visual pop to the bed. This does not have to be a major investment. You can improvise a canopy with a simple mosquito net hung over the bed. You can create the illusion of an ornamented headboard by painting designs directly on the wall behind the bed. Tie gauzy ribbons around bed posts or invest in some lacy, frilly pillowcases to add a feminine touch.

4. Accessorize the look. You can go for the Disney princess look with cartoon princesses on the trash bin, curtains and comforter. Or you can add a crown-shaped throw rug, ornamental stencils on walls and furniture, a lamp spray-painted gold, bouquets of cloth flowers or a toy box transformed into a jeweled treasure chest.

5. Personalize the space. Add princess-themed name plates, growth charts or frames for artwork. Place family photographs in frames that you have spray painted gold and decorated with glitter or sequins. Let you child do a small project for the space, such as painting a night stand or step stool in princess colors.
