Items For Beach Bedrooms For Kids

Transform your child's bedroom into a beach oasis.

A beach-themed bedroom captures the essence of summer year round. Children can enjoy a beach oasis in the comfort of your home in just a few quick and easy steps. The possibilities are endless. Items such as seashells, tropical flowers, lighthouses, surfboards and sand are easy to find or create with art.

Walls

For a simple and basic wall design, use paint in either blue or beige. Blue paint can capture the serenity of water on the beach, while beige may resemble sand. You may also post decals such as surfboards and seashells, which your child can pick out and place on the wall himself. For a more detailed design, have a mural painted on one accent wall or around the entire room. A mural of a beach scene complete with sandy beaches, palm trees and the ocean is a great addition to a beach-themed room.

Bedding

You have many options for beach-themed kids' bedding. For the simple approach, you can get a monotone comforter to either match the blue or beige of the walls or in contrast to emphasize the ocean and sand pairing of the beach. This simple approach will leave focus to the accessories around the room and promote relaxation on the bed rather than a distracting pattern. A more decorative approach could include a comforter with lighthouses, starfish, surfboards or tropical flowers. Try adding a grass bed skirt to add to the beach theme, similar to a hula dancer's attire.

Lighting

Include your child in decorating the lighting for the room. Add a grass hula skirt to a plain lampshade from top to bottom for a fun beach lamp. You can also have your child find shells on your next trip to the beach and glue them to a plain lampshade. Add some glow-in-the-dark star-shaped stickies to the ceiling to give a "beach under the stars" feel. This may also help children who are afraid of the dark.

Accessories

Add stickers or paint a miniature ocean scene on a light switch cover for a special touch. String together seashells from the beach with your child to create a unique garland to drape anywhere around the room. Continue with the hula skirt design and create a window covering out of the grass-like material. Another art lesson for your child could include gluing seashells to thick-banded picture frames. Add your child's favorite picture of the family at the beach for the perfect personalized beach-themed accessory.
