Make Your Bedroom Ecofriendly With Ecobedroom Sets

Sleep easier on an environmentally safe bed.

Go green within your home to lessen your exposure to toxic chemicals and other environmental hazards. Start by transforming your bedroom into a cozy eco-friendly paradise. In addition to looking for bedroom furniture made from reclaimed or recycled materials, replace your mattress with an organic one, as traditional commercial mattresses are often made from petroleum-derived polyester and other synthetic materials that can negatively affect health. Another benefit of purchasing organic bedroom items, such as organic cotton sheets, is the low impact the manufacturing of such materials has on the planet.

Instructions

1. Purchase bedroom furniture made from recycled lumber or other sustainable material, such as bed frames created from bamboo. Support local businesses and cut down on carbon monoxide emissions by buying furniture locally. Another option is to refinish old bedroom furniture a friend or family member was going to throw out.

2. Place an organic mattress and box spring on the frame, if applicable. Organic mattresses are made with organic cotton and chemical-free wool, with natural rubber, or latex, mattresses also available depending on your bedding preference. Using organic mattresses lessens your exposure to toxic chemicals, as well as dust mites. Natural wool is a dust mite repellent and also insulates well and absorbs humidity, meaning it will stay warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

3. Buy environmentally friendly sheets, pillows, duvet covers, shams and comforters. Look for those made of pure organic cotton, flannel or silk depending on preference. Buy locally if possible to further add to the eco-friendliness of your bedroom.

4. Use other eco-friendly decor pieces to round out your environmentally friendly bedroom. Consider chairs made of recycled plastic, or those that have been reupholstered and made new again. Look for desks made of recycled lumber, as well as decor items from yard sales, flea markets and consignment shops to avoid buying new.
