Commercial Bathroom Cleaning Checklist

Commercial bathrooms are designed for high volume use.

Commercial bathrooms require regular cleaning so that they are suitable for public use. Each establishment maintains its own checklist for cleaning its bathrooms, though certain standards of cleanliness apply across the board. Failure to maintain clean restroom facilities could reduce consumer confidence in the cleanliness of other areas of the business and may draw a health code violation.

Sinks and Counter Tops

Sinks and counter tops must be cleaned daily in any commercial bathroom. Surfaces should be completely dry, free of any standing water and disinfected to ensure no pathogens exist on the surface that might potentially harm patrons using the bathroom. Cleaning these surfaces several times a day, particularly when work shifts change, helps minimize the damage to the bathroom and keeps the bathroom looking acceptable.

Bathroom Mirrors

Mirrors in commercial bathrooms also require daily cleaning. Surfaces should be free of streaks and fluids. They can be disinfected in a similar manner as sinks and counter tops. Glass cleaner or dish-washing liquid may be used to give the mirror a streak-free shine, according to Real Simple's Complete Bathroom Cleaning Checklist. Mirrors in commercial bathrooms should be checked at least once an hour.

Toilets and Urinals

Toilets and urinals must be disinfected and scrubbed as part of any commercial bathroom cleaning checklist. Antacid tablets provide the bubbling action necessary to break down toilet and urinal stains and make them easier to scrub away. Chrome components of each toilet or urinal should be buffed free of any water spots, finger prints or other marks.

Toiletries, Trashcans and Floors

Toiletries such as toilet paper, paper towels and any other items should be monitored throughout the day and refilled as necessary. Trashcans and other waste receptacles must be cleaned and changed during turnovers in work shifts and at the end of the evening when the facility or business is closed. The floors in commercial bathrooms must be kept free of debris and standing liquids.
