Master Bathroom Remodeling Ideas

The master bath should ideally provde a place to escape from the pressures of the world.

The master bathroom is like an extension of the master bedroom and should keep with the theme of providing you a private oasis from the stresses of the outside world. While the master bath is an extension of your bedroom, there is no rule that says it has to be decorated in the same way. If the bedroom is decorated mainly in the style preferred by one spouse, then the bath could reflect the sensibilities of the other spouse.

Tubs

The extent of your remodeling plans may begin and end with the replacement of the tub. The master bathroom should include a tub that is a showcase item. Among the types of tubs to consider for bathroom renovation are whirlpool tubs, corner tubs and old-fashioned, detached claw-foot tubs. For a truly impressive master bathroom, consider a floor level sunken tub that you can walk directly into.

Two-sided Couples Bathroom

If you keep running into each other inside the current bathroom design, give thought to a complete redesign of the area. Place a shower unit on one side and a tub on the other. Place a sink on both sides but at different ends of the room. This design may even seem like you've got more space than you really do.

Whimsical Bathroom

A master bathroom can be more enjoyable than some children's bathrooms if you are the type who remains young at heart. Create your own whimsical paradise by painting the tub to look like a yellow submarine. Comic book collectors should consider repainting the walls to reflect their favorite characters. Movie lovers can place framed images of their favorite movies or photographs of their favorite actors. Install some shelving to showcase your collectibles. Music lovers who have transferred their entire CD collection into MP3 should create a mirrored wall by fastening their CD collection to a wall with the label-side down. Or adhere label-side out to showcase your collection.

Wood and Copper

Get rid of all that ceramic and faux ceramic fixtures that make your bathroom look like everybody else's. Wood vanities and washstands automatically lend a bathroom a distinctively new feel. Adding a polished wooden toilet seat carries this design through its logical conclusion. A freestanding copper tub provides just the right kind of contrast to all that grain. Accent the tub by installing copper faucets in your sink and copper towel holders on the wall. Of course, if you really like the whole wood look, you can even get a wooden tub.

Specialized Equipment

Remodeling for special purposes can result in the introduction of specialized elements. A walk-in hydrotherapy tub is designed with a sloping backrest and head support as well as massage jets for those who suffer chronic back pain. If your shower area means stepping into a tub, remodel to make the tub and shower unit separate to reduce the potential for falling. Go a step further and install a sitting area inside the shower for those who might have trouble standing up by themselves.
