A country style for the bedroom can be comfortable and warm. When choosing a style, start with the furniture, which can range from simple Shaker style, to rustic to light-painted wood appropriate for a sunny Mediterranean look. Once you've chosen the furniture, choose bedding, curtains, an area rug and accessories that accentuate the look.
Furniture
Wood is a natural choice for the furniture in a country bedroom. You can match the pieces or create a more eclectic look by mixing light and dark woods or even adding a painted piece to stand out from other stained or varnished ones. Choose dressers and night tables with some ornate details, which offer a focal point to the furniture.
Textiles
Go with a variety of colors, patterns and textures in a country-style bedroom. You can mix prints, such as stripes, florals and checks, if they have some of the same colors and tones. Or, choose a variety of the same pattern in different colors. Mix up what you use for the bedding, drapery and area rug. If you choose smooth cotton or linen drapery and bedding, choose a rugged, textured area rug to add contrast and interest.
Accents
Ensure your country bedroom has overhead lighting, lamps on the bedside tables and task lighting on a desk or vanity in the room. Add rustic or jeweled knobs to dresser drawers for an unexpected touch, and hang a picture of your favorite country scene. Add an extra quilt to the bottom of the bed, in bright colors that coordinate with your room, and pile a variety of pillows on the bed for a casual, comfortable look.
Interpretations
You can change the focus of a country theme by simply adding another focus. For example, whitewashed woods and blues and sand tones can reflect a country beach house. Add more rustic furniture and plaid linens for a cottage look. Decorate with terra cotta tones for a Mediterranean country look, or use blue and yellow color scheme for a French country room.
