If you have a large bedroom, you'll likely need one main light fixture, along with smaller accent lights to place near your desk or reading chair. For rooms with limited space, it may be best to add more features to the main light fixture, such as converting it to a ceiling fan so that you can adjust the temperature of the room without having to take up any floor space with a space heater or fan.

Function

The lights in your bedroom should serve several purposes to make your room more efficient or decorative. For instance, track lighting underneath the main portrait in the room will help to make the artwork the focal point. Or, you can include small lamps on the nightstands on either side of the bed to use for nighttime reading.

Considerations

If you want the ceiling light fixture to match the overall theme of the bedroom, it's a good idea to replace or enhance it so that it becomes another decorative accent in the room. For instance, installing a chandelier in a bedroom with a sophisticated theme is impressive; a fixture shaped like a Chinese lantern is picturesque for an Asian bedroom.
