Bedroom Chair Ideas

If you have the space, add an ottoman to your reading nook.

You've placed your bed in the correct position, a nightstand or two, lamps, an accent rug, linens and window treatments. Still, your room may seem lacking without some sort of accent area. An accent chair or lounge can soften a corner, fill a large empty space or provide a reading or relaxing nook in your boudoir. Style and size depends on how much space you have and its use.

Filling the Small or Irregular Corner

Perhaps there's a corner in your bedroom that's too small for a dresser or desk, but too prominent to leave bare. Irregular corners can be tricky, but when filled properly, they provide an eye-catching accent area. Compact chairs with simple lines work best in small spaces like these. Armless futon-style one-seaters with a curvy pattern work well, as does a solid colored bucket chair. If the space is large enough, you can add a large plant, floor lamp or side table.

Luxurious Lounging

If you're lucky enough to have a bedroom large enough to accommodate a larger, plush chair, take advantage. Comfy chairs like these come in handy when you're just not ready to go to bed. If the area on either side of your is spacious and wide, don't hesitate to place an armchair and ottoman at your bedside. It's important to leave plenty of space between the bed and chair to prevent a cluttered look, but this creates an area for a visitor to sit and converse, or if you knit, embroider or crochet, you can make it your crafting chair by placing a supply basket on the side, against the wall.

Reading Nook

Whether you're limited on space or have room to spare, you can create a private reading sanctuary in your room with a simple chair. If you're limited on space, opt for a small, comfy chair you can get in and out of easily. You may be able to find a compact armchair or papasan. Place the chair near the window and nighttime light source. A side table and lamp work well, so you have a place to put your book. If you have the room, you can use an ottoman or chaise lounge in your nook. Regardless of the chair style, having comfortable throw pillows is essential for an inviting reading area. For a quiet nook, use an elegant room divider or hang a sheer curtain across one side. You can tie it back when it's not in use to expose your pretty area.
