Ideas For Painting A Bedroom With A Zebra Theme

Too many stripes can make a bedroom feel as though it's moving.

Zebras are a native African animal that inspire imagination and add the feeling of being on a safari. Whether your child wants actual zebra pictures or zebra stripes, the look is distinct and requires care in painting the room. Zebra stripes should be used sparingly in a room, as too many will make the room look too busy.

Color

Zebra stripes can come in any color. For instance, hot pink or purple can be a background for black zebra stripes in a girl's room. If your furniture and bedding already have zebra stripes, then avoid adding more stripes to the wall. Instead, paint the majority of the room either pink or black with a focal wall in the opposite color. This technique allows the room to match the decor without going overboard.

Wall Stripes

Themed bedding and furniture can be pricey. If you haven't purchased any striped fabric yet for the furniture, put the stripes on the walls instead. Zebra stripes can be free-handed, or you can purchase a stencil for the room. Break up the stripes with plain furniture, and consider bringing an additional color such as brown or yellow into the room to better alleviate the stripes.

Mural

For those desiring more than stripes, an African safari mural on a focal wall will instantly take the room from plain to themed. You can make murals with free-hand painting, or use stencils and paint-by-number guides. If the room is for children, seal the mural with epoxy once it dries for easy cleaning later on.

Neutralizing

If the room's furnishings are covered in busy stripes and the rug is one of the theme's colors, take the paint in a more neutral direction. For black and white zebra stripes, paint the walls gray. This is known in the painting world as using analogous colors, or colors that are between the other main colors on the color wheel.
