Decorate A Small Bedroom For Three Boys

A child's bedroom serves as a private escape from the rest of the world. The comfort found in a bedroom can help children overcome worries and build confidence. Besides being a primary resting place, bedrooms can also help spark childhood creativity. Although sharing a small bedroom with siblings might minimize individual space, it doesn't have to ruin opportunities for interactivity and fun.

Instructions

1. Choose an interesting theme. Picking a theme unifies the bedroom and makes selecting decorations easier. It also redirects focus from the small size of the room. Present several options to the boys, so they feel included in the decorating process. Suitable options for boy bedrooms include sports, nature and cartoon character themes. Allow the boys to make suggestions following any predetermined guidelines.

2. Combat clutter with a pre-emptive strike. Incorporate storage devices into the bedroom to reinforce the importance of cleanliness. Eliminate excuses that the room is too small to hold their belongings. Provide wooden bins and plastic crates to store toys and electronics. Install corner-shelving units to hold collectibles and stuffed animals. Provide a bookcase to organize books, videos and board games. Decorate storage devices with themed stickers and decals for added appeal.

3. Pick kid-friendly furniture. Since you can't stop all roughhousing, choosing "forgiving" furniture is an essential part of decorating children's bedrooms. Choose lightweight, but durable furniture with rounded corners. Opt for stackable furniture, such as bunk beds to increase floor space.

4. Make the walls "talk." Paint the bedroom walls with bright primary colors. Hang colorful posters that feature kid-friendly characters and designs. Apply themed wall decals and borders to fill empty spaces. Consider painting a mural if you plan to keep the bedroom theme long term.

5. Pull the bedroom together with matching linens and curtains. Allow each boy to choose a different comforter in a coordinating design or color scheme. This offers each child a chance to let his creativity and individuality shine. Choose curtains that contrast with the wall color to make the room pop.
