Replace Bathroom Vanity Lights

Remodeling or changing a bathroom can be a good project for a homeowner interested in redesigning a small space. Adding a new item such as a new vanity can spark changes throughout the bathroom, and using a different vanity light can increase or decrease the amount of working light within the bathroom. Safety precautions include making sure the power to the fixture is turned off completely.

Instructions

1. Shut off the power to the vanity light circuit at the main power panel.

2. Locate the screws which secure the light fixture to the light's wall mounting bracket. These screws will either be regular screws or Allen-head screws.

3. Remove the screws and the light fixture from the mounting bracket. Remove the plastic twist caps and disconnect the fixture wiring from the supply wiring coming out of the wall. Set the fixture aside.

4. Remove the screws holding the mounting bracket to the wall, and take off the mounting bracket.

5. Read the manufacturer's instructions on install the new mounting bracket, and secure the bracket to the wall. Connect the new fixture wiring to the existing wiring by joining the two white wires and then joining the two black wires. Place a plastic twist cap on both splices. Connect the ground wire if one is available.

6. Hold the new light fixture into position on the mounting bracket and secure it with the screws that were supplied. Turn the power back on and test the light.
