Decorate An Adult'S Bedroom

Your bedroom is used for much more than sleeping. It is a place for you to relax and get away from the world. It can be your retreat from the craziness of everyday life. When decorating your bedroom, you should keep its purpose in mind. Keeping your bedroom's décor simple and classic is one way to create that restful retreat you are looking for in a bedroom. As you decorate your bedroom, think of all the ways you will be using this room in your home and decorate accordingly.

Instructions

1. Use neutral paint for the walls of the adult's bedroom. Try a warm cream color or soft beige for the wall color. This will make your bedroom look larger. Avoid bright and dark colors, seeing these colors will make your bedroom seem smaller.

2. Coordinate the window treatments with the other colors in the adult's bedroom. Avoid heavy or poufy draperies. These take up too much space and make your bedroom look smaller than it actually is. Try simple, straight curtains with ribbon or lace tiebacks.

3. Coordinate bedding with the other colors in the adult's bedroom. Feel free to mix and match the colors in your bedding. Avoid heavy comforters and excessive throw pillows for your bed. Keep your bedding simple. A solid comforter with splashes of color used in your throw pillows work well.

4. Use furniture sparingly in the adult's bedroom. Choose a few larger pieces of furniture instead of several small pieces. This will help your bedroom look less cluttered. Balance your furniture on more than one wall to avoid an area of your room looking too heavy.

5. Add wall art in the adult's bedroom. Use your personal taste and style as a guide when selecting wall art for your bedroom. Group similar pictures or photos together, making sure their frames complement each other. Balance the wall art by using one large piece on one wall opposite the wall holding several smaller pieces of wall art.

6. Use accessories sparingly in the adult's bedroom. Avoid cluttering your bedroom with unnecessary accessories. Keep your accessories simple. Small flower arrangements or collections grouped together work well in a bedroom.

7. Add decorative storage to the adult's bedroom. Use decorative boxes or baskets for storage. Add an ottoman in a corner that can be used as both seating and storage. Use shadow boxes to display small collections instead of putting them on a dresser or nightstand.
