Create A Sliding Room Divider For A Bedroom

Create a Sliding Room Divider for a Bedroom

Sliding room dividers provide an affordable and flexible solution for dividing multi-purpose bedrooms. Whether you have two children sharing a bedroom or simply need to hide the inevitable spare room junk from overnight guests, sliding bedroom dividers will meet your ever-changing needs and add style and function to any bedroom. Room dividers are available in a range of styles to suit virtually any taste and budget and can be easily installed by a novice do-it-yourselfer.

Instructions

1. Mark off lines with the pencil on both the floors and ceiling at the point where you wish the front bedroom divider panels to sit. Snap a chalk line from one end of the room to the other to ensure straight, even guidelines for your sliding panel tracks. Hang the plumb line from the ceiling track line to the corresponding floor track line to verify that the floor and ceiling markers line up exactly.

2. Measure back from each line the width of one panel. Add 1/4 inch to the width to allow for a smooth sliding room divider system and mark lines for the second set of divider tracks.

3. Position the front tracks centered over the marking lines so the line appears in the middle of the predrilled screw holes. Secure the bedroom divider tracks to the floor and ceiling using the drill and screws.

4. Measure and mark off a "T" centered on the thickness of the panel approximately 2 1/2 inches from the side along the top face. Repeat on the top and bottom faces of all panels. Center the drill hole of the roller hardware over the mark and attach using the drill and screws. Repeat on each side along the top and bottom faces of all panels.

5. Fit the front divider panels securely into the floor and ceiling tracks and test roll to ensure a smooth slide though the bedroom divider tracks. Install the rear bypass panels using the same method.

6. Fit the door stop hardware into the front upper track and secure using screws and the drill. Repeat this process for each of the remaining divider panel tracks.
