Decorating Ideas For A Master Bedroom

The master bedroom is one of the most personal rooms in a house. It should be a place where you can kick back, relax and escape from the stress of everyday life. Create a personalized retreat by decorating your master bedroom in such a way that it reflects your unique taste and style.

Style

Decide on the style of the room before you start decorating it. For example, think about whether you prefer something sleek and modern, or more traditional in your bedroom furniture. Perhaps you like a clean, minimalist look, or maybe you like the patterns and colors of the French-country style of decorating. Take stock of what you have already in place, and determine whether you are going to work with that or if you are going to purchase all new furniture and items.

Color

Decide on a color scheme. Color is one of the quickest and easiest ways to change a room. Create a cool, subdued retreat in shades of gray and blue, warm up a large room with pale yellow walls, or put together a modern space in black and white. The colors you choose will be in part influenced by the style you select.

Furniture

Choose the most important furniture items for your master bedroom. Do not overcrowd the room with things you will not use. This will only make the room seem cluttered, which is not relaxing. Instead, use the space wisely. If you like to read in your bedroom, create a cozy reading corner with a comfortable chair, side table and lamp. Splurge on a bed you really like, as this will be the focal point of your room, and consider a closet system in place of a dresser, which will save space if your bedroom is small.

Decor

Choose a few decorative items that will make your bedroom truly unusual. Frame some black and white photos of your children and hang them above your headboard. Add green plants, a bamboo rug and a tabletop fountain for a spa-like feel. Hang some floating shelves and display a treasured collection on them. Finally, finish off the room by indulging in some luxurious and beautiful linens for your bed that complement the decor.
