Sew Bedroom Table Cloths

A round, covered table creates an attractive and useful bedroom decoration. A round table with a homemade tablecloth makes a nice bedside stand that can serve as an entry table when entertaining guests. Sewing your own bedroom tablecloth is an inexpensive way to decorate an otherwise dull corner. Making a bedroom tablecloth is a beginner-level sewing project that requires knowledge of measuring, cutting and basic sewing machine operation.

Instructions

1. Measure the table before cutting the fabric. Begin by measuring the first layer--starting at the floor near one leg and going over the widest part of the table and then down the leg on the other side of the table. Add 1 inch. Measure the top layer by placing the tape measure across the diameter, and add 24 inches.

2. Place the largest piece of fabric flat on the cutting surface. Cut the fabric into a large circle using the first measurement. Place the smaller piece of contrasting fabric on the cutting surface. Cut the fabric for the second layer into a square using the other measurement.

3. Sew both pieces of fabric--all the way around the outer edge. Use a zigzag or other finishing stitch. According to the Simplicity Sewing Book, finished edges prevent raveling and improve the appearance of the finished product. Turn the edge under using a ½-inch fold. Finish the hem by sewing the hem in place with a straight stitch.
