Decorate A Bedroom With Candles

The bedroom is the room where we let go of the day to find privacy and rest. Decorating a bedroom with the right decorations can transform it from an ordinary room into a sanctuary. Here are some suggestions for decorating a bedroom with candles.

Instructions

1. Select the right candle for the right purpose. Since the bedroom generally serves a variety of functions, decorate it with candles that suit all of your needs. For relaxing or sleeping, choose candles that are soothing and calming, such as lavender and vanilla. For more intimate moments, set a mood with candles whose scents are warm and sensual, like jasmine and musk.

2. Display candles safely. Many bedroom items are flammable, including curtains, bedding and possibly clothing. Display your candles in heat-resistant holders and away from flammable objects. Do not leave candles burning unattended or while you are sleeping; even candles in heat-resistant holders are a fire hazard if left unattended.

3. Match your decor theme. If your bedroom has a pre-existing theme, choose candles and holders that match. Accentuate a western theme with earth-toned candles that have warm earthy scents, such as amber in wrought iron holders. You can use silver candleholders with blue and green candles to complement a Mediterranean or tropically-themed bedroom. Use candles scented with sandalwood or spice in a bedroom with a Moroccan theme.

4. Decorate adult rooms only. Children's bedrooms should not be decorated with candles, even if the candles are placed out of reach, due to the potential fire hazard. If you want candles to be a part of your child's bedroom theme, consider electric "candles" that have small light bulbs substituting for the candle "flames."

5. Incorporate other decorations. If your bedroom has a dominant color in its theme, or your bedspread has a striking pattern, purchase ribbons that match these colors or patterns from a local craft store. Tie them around the candles. Accentuate nautical or tropical themes by placing seashells on and around candles. You also can highlight earth tones in your bedroom by doing the same with polished stones or even colorful rocks.
