Design A Cool Girl'S Bedroom

Go romantic chic with white on white.

When you want to design a cool girl's bedroom, start by asking her what she wants. A cool girl comes in many different styles and ranges from the cheerleader to the student body president. Each will have definite ideas on her style and color combinations. Once you know the design she prefers, then follow these basic design elements. Remain focused on the overall design and not the individual pieces, as you want to pull off a cool look, not one that screams themed want-to-be cool.

Instructions

1. Learn her style. Review decorating magazines with her and discover if she is into a seascape, country, sophisticate, modern, romantic chic or Gothic design. Look into her closet for the colors she prefers to wear, as this is an indication of the color palette to choose for the room.

2. Design the room. Go with teal blues and sea-foam greens tinged with tans for a seascape, or black with white for a modern or Gothic flair. Choose a pink on red theme for a more romantic appearance, or white on white with laces and sheers. Consider texture with antique furniture for a country chic design.

3. Paint the room. Choose burnt orange glazed with golds for a Tuscany feel, cream with glazed cream stripes for a sophisticated twist or paint castle stones on the bottom of the wall in stone gray with an ice blue top half. Consider a color wash for a seascape design.

4. Plan the furniture layout. Focus the bed as the main piece in the room. Arrange a night stand beside it, or consider cabinets to hold CDs and DVDs instead with a top to hold the clock and a drink. Give her ample room for her clothes with a tall dresser with deep drawers and an armoire to house her clothes and hide a television set. Set up a make-up table so she can put on her face in the morning and a writing desk to complete her homework at night.

5. Buy bedding and curtains in complementary colors. Choose rich velvets for a Gothic and medieval room, quilts and crochet blankets for a country design or a clean, crisp silk duvet cover for a modern or sophisticated design.

6. Accent the room with items that reflect her style. A lamp filled with shells on the bottom half with sandcastles and sand candles bring in the beach appearance. Gargoyle lamps and sconces give the Gothic message, while glass surfaces free of clutter scream sophistication.
