Fix A Bathroom Faucet

There are any number of things that can go wrong with a faucet, but most require simple repairs. Even though a wide variety of bathroom faucets are available today, these general guidelines can help you repair your bathroom faucet.

Instructions

1. Check the shut-off valve to the water supply line under the sink. If the faucet is not producing much water, you may need to open the valve to allow more water to flow.

2. Clean the bathroom faucet tip. Carefully unscrew the cap on the end of the faucet. You may need to use slip-joint pliers with a cloth over the teeth to loosen the cap. Carefully take the faucet cap apart and clean out all the calcium buildup in the screens. Soak the screens if necessary. Remember how the screens come apart so you can get them back together again.

3. Tighten the faucet to the sink if water is leaking around the edges. Don't over-tighten in a porcelain sink fixture or you may need to repair it as well.

4. Turn off the water supply to the sink before you proceed to the next steps. Failure to do so can cause a serious mess.

5. Put new washers in the faucet. Remove the decorative cover on the faucet. Loosen the packing nut by turning it counter-clockwise. Pull out the entire valve. Locate the washer and replace it. Put the valve back in the faucet and tighten the packing nut. Replace the cover.
