Feng Shui To Get Rid Of Negativity In The Bedroom

Keep your bed free of clutter to follow the principles of feng shui.

Feng shui is the ancient Chinese art of arranging your room to promote health and vitality. This principle originated over 3,000 years ago and is intended to align the "chi," or energy, in a space, bringing balance to the home and extinguishing negative energy.

Remove Clutter

Remove any clutter from your bedroom. This includes storing your dirty clothes in the hamper and cleaning, vacuuming and dusting the space. Achieve proper feng shui by removing all of the room's impediments. Keep any surfaces, including the dresser or nightstand top, free of mess by placing essential items, such as medication or your eyeglasses, in a drawer instead of in plain sight. Keep decorative items to a minimum.

Position the Bed

Position your bed as far away from the door as possible to give you a larger view of the room and power over everything inside. Also, pull the bed a few inches away from the wall to prevent blocking the flow of the room. Feng shui dictates that seeing the bed when entering the room is essential, as this is the main energy source in the space. However, do not point the end of the bed directly toward the door. This causes positive energy to exit the bed and your body.

Remove Negative Energies

Drape a cloth or sheets over any furniture in the room that contains a sharp edge, such as a dresser or night stand. This will cover the pointed edges that can otherwise send negative energy into the room. If possible, choose furniture with rounded edges. Also, avoid housing electronics including televisions, computers and telephones inside the bedroom. These are "hard" objects that interrupt the natural balance of yin and yang. If you are not willing to move these items, cover them at night when the balance of yin, which is the softer of the two, is crucial. In addition, avoid exercising or fighting in the bedroom. The bedroom is a place of peace and tranquility, and both of these activities promote stress or anger.

Decorate the Space

Paint the walls with neutral, calming colors including tan, white or beige. And place a bookcase facing the northeast wall of the room, which will promote self-awareness and learning. Hang a picture of loved ones, a round mirror or a pair of pink objects on the southeast wall of the room. These will all promote romance and happiness inside the space. But do not hang pictures of your family directly above the bed or on the wall facing the bed to prevent bringing your family drama into a space intended for rest.

Children

Use your child's age to dictate her bedroom choice. For example, house your eldest son in the bedroom facing east and your youngest in the bedroom facing northeast. An eldest daughter will receive the most luck in a bedroom that is facing southeast, while the youngest should set up residence in a room that faces west.
