Decorate A Teenager'S Bedroom

Decorate a Teenager's Bedroom

A teenager's bedroom is of the utmost importance to him . It is a place for her to be alone or with friends, to study, play or just "hang out". Don't make your teenager suffer in a room that is cluttered, bare, or even still decorated childishly. Instead, help the transition from child to adult run a bit smoother by decorating your teen's bedroom in such a way that he will actually want to give you a hug. Maybe he'll even "hang out" with you instead of his friends.

Instructions

1. Ask your teen what kind of decor he wants. Even if he or she only mutters "yes" and "no" back to you, at least you'll get some ideas of what your teen wants in the room. It's important to get your teen's input so that the space will feel like his or her own sanctuary.

2. Create a work space. Include a desk with a comfortable chair for your teen to use while studying. Stock the desk with studying tools such as sticky notes, highlighting pens and paper. Near the desk, set aside a place for books and your teen's bag or backpack. This could be a cool chest or foot locker.

3. Create a fun space. If your teen likes to read, try a beanbag chair, reading light and bookshelves. If he likes to play video games, a wall-mounted TV would be an extravagant and fun surprise.

4. Create an empty space. This can be a bare wall, a large bulletin board, or other similar space. This space will allow your teen to do some of the decorating by herself.

5. Choose neutral colors. While your teen may love hot pink and neon green, she may not love it so much after she's lived with it for six weeks. Paint the walls and choose bedding in neutral colors, and let accent pieces--such as neon pink throw pillows and a green lava lamp--brighten up the place. These things can be easily changed when your teen's tastes change.

6. Splurge on quality. Purchase things that your child can take with him to college, such as a down comforter or a laptop computer. When choosing furniture, select pieces that your child might want in her home as an adult, or that you yourself can use in a guestroom later.
