Decorate Bedroom Furniture

After a long day, everyone retreats to the most relaxing room in the home, the bedroom. Create a room that looks like a page in a magazine with decorative accessories, rich fabrics, candles and pillows. The details are what make any room beautiful, so highlight your bedroom furniture by layering in, but not overpowering, the surfaces. Decorative items should be kept to a minimum and grouped in odd numbers. On flat surfaces, like dressers and night stands, place items in accent colors to draw attention to each furniture piece.

Instructions

1. Display your favorite cologne on the dresser. Use a beaded place mat to protect the surface and add lamps. Use a mirrored tray to hold jewelry, but keep these items small and to a minimum if the dresser is small. Add a vase of fresh flowers each week for a splash of color and fragrance.

2. Top the bedside tables with lamps, a stack of your favorite books on one and a crystal alarm clock on the other. Store small items in a decorative box to keep the clutter down. For more surface space, instead of table lamps, hang wall lamps above the nightstands.

3. Create a decadent and luxurious bed with rich fabrics and pillows. If you have a four-poster bed, drape lengths of fabric from the post . Sheer and other lightweight fabrics are best for draping the posts.

4. Set a candelabra on a tall chest of drawers. Add bowls of potpourri and framed photographs. If the chest of drawers has doors, add a decorative touch by changing the insets to fabric or stained glass.

5. Change the look of your furniture by using stamps and ink from your local crafts store to decorate the surface. Apply a sealer to prevent the ink from wearing off.

6. Update the knobs and handles on your bedroom furniture. Measure the distance between the screws holding the handle in place. Search for new ones with the same distance between install screws.
