If you love the look and feel of a homey cottage but do not live in one, you can still transform your bedroom with elements taken from country abodes. Select a cottage style you like, such as "country cottage" or "shabby chic cottage," and use a few decorating items to bring the charming, relaxing feel of cottage-style living into your home.
Beach Cottage
Transform your bedroom into a "beach cottage" with white, rustic items. Outfit your bed with lightweight, white linens. Line your windows with airy, white curtains. Place seashells and sand in large glass vases or candy pedestals. Hang white shadow display boxes on your walls and fill them with seashells, faux sea grass or artwork of seagulls or ocean scenes. If you have a large budget for remodeling, install hardwood floors in your bedroom. A beach cottage look should have lots of rustic wood and white elements.
Country Cottage
Give your bedroom a country cottage feel and look with a few simple colors and farm decor items. Bring in the colors of the country by dressing your bed with soft yellows, greens and reds-along with classic white.
