Find A Cheap 3bedroom House

Find a cheap three-bedroom house in your area.

Due to the vast differences in housing prices across the United States, finding cheap homes is more easily done in some cities and towns than in others. If you know where to look though, a cheap three-bedroom house can be found in nearly any U.S. city. While most people realize that three-bedroom homes can be purchased for less in crime-heavy areas of a city, finding a cheap three-bedroom house that you can afford doesn't mean sacrificing your family's feelings of security.

Instructions

1. Watch for sheriff's auctions in your area. Sheriff's auctions are held when a repossessed home in the area is sold by a lender to try to recoup some of the money lost when homeowners defaulted on their mortgage payments. The auctions are overseen by the sheriff's office and held on a regular basis or as needed, depending on the housing market and how often homes in the area are being repossessed. Auctions are usually announced in the local media or on the county website, and lists of what properties are being sold at the auction can often be obtained ahead of time from the sheriff's department.

2. Look for properties in your area that are part of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) foreclosure offerings. While the HUD houses are foreclosures just like the houses at sheriff's auctions, HUD has housing listings that differ from the sheriff's listings. Some government and medical employees receive discounts when purchasing HUD housing. Follow the links on the HUD page to your state's listings to search for local homes.

3. Contact a real estate agent and ask about fixer-uppers and handyman specials. While some real estate agents list all of their properties on their websites or in their advertisements, many include only those most likely to sell, which leaves fixer-uppers and other unsightly homes off the record.
