The Size Of A Bedroom Closet

Walk-in closets are often seen in master bedrooms.

Not all bedroom closets are the same size. Some are small reach-in closets, while others are large walk-in closets. Sometimes a closet can equal the size of an entire room. However, bedroom closet sizes generally follow standard dimensions, whether they are small, medium or large.

Linen Closet Size

Some bedrooms have a linen closet, which holds sheets, blankets and towels. The minimum depth of a linen closet is generally 14 inches and the minimum width is generally 18 inches. Linen closets are small and basically made to store bed and bathroom fabrics rather than clothing.

Reach-In Closet Size

A reach-in closet generally has a minimum depth of 2 feet and width of 3 feet. Reach-in closets are often in any bedroom other than the master. It is a small closet made to hold shoes, clothing and general storage items.

Walk-In Closet Size

Walk-in closets usually have a minimum width of 6 feet and a length of 8 feet. A walk-in closet is usually attached to a master bedroom. It holds shoes, clothing and personal items. Some walk-in closets are built according to custom dimensions and can be quite large in size.

Ceiling Height

The preferred ceiling height of a closet is 8 feet, but many are only 7 feet high. The height of the closet ceiling often depends on the height of the bedroom ceiling.

Closet Organizers

Closet organizers help open more space by allowing for more storage, hiding away extra clothes or clutter from the floor. Shoe organizers, shelving units and wardrobe racks store shoes, clothes and accessories. Some companies specialize in closet organization systems and you can have one custom built into your closet to aid in organization.
