Decorate A Bedroom Using Purple And Lavender

Use light purple, lavender and white to create an airy, romantic bedroom.

Create a monochromatic color scheme by using various shades of the same color, such as purple and lavender. Your bedroom can include a third, neutral shade to ground the purple. Purple and lavender work just as well in a master bedroom as in a teen's or little girl's room, depending on how you use the colors. Bluish-purple is a cool color that can bring comfort and relaxation to your bedroom, while reddish-purple is a warm color that can add excitement.

Instructions

1. Paint the walls a light shade of purple if you want an airy or romantic feel to the room or a deep purple to create a sense of mystery. Alternatively, paint three of the walls lavender and use a darker shade of purple on an accent wall. For a different approach, use a painting technique, such as sponging, or paint stripes, polka dots or another pattern on the wall. Wallpaper is another option to introduce a pattern to the room, such as toile or damask.

2. Fill the room with neutral-colored furniture to balance the room. For example, use white, black or chocolate brown in natural wood, birch or metal furniture. If you want to include purple or lavender in the furniture, try a deep purple upholstered headboard, lavender nightstands or purple knobs on a dresser.

3. Use your linens to continue the purple color scheme, introduce a pattern or provide a neutral color. Place lavender sheets under a dark comforter or dark purple sheets under a white, lavender or patterned comforter to create contrast and interest. A solid white comforter will stand out in a room with patterned or deep purple walls. Some purple patterns to consider are floral, damask, toile, stripes or polka dots.

4. Hang pictures or artwork on the walls that complement the purple and lavender color scheme. Use purple mats and white frames on lavender walls or press purple flowers and frame them. Silver mirrors, wall sconces and metal wall sculptures are other options.

5. Accessorize the room with interesting items that make you feel relaxed and complement your purple color scheme. White floating shelves will pop against purple walls and draw attention to glass vases holding purple or white flowers. Purple throw pillows, lamps and candle holders are some other options. Use lavender-scented air freshener or candles to add a lavender scent to the room as well.
