Create A Beautiful Feminine Bedroom

A canopy bed adds a feminine touch to a bedroom.

A bedroom is your personal sanctuary in your home, It should be a comfortable space that reflects your personal style. Whether you're decorating your own bedroom, or your daughter's, create a sophisticated space that showcases femininity. Through the use of color and decorative accents, you can transform your bedroom into a grand, feminine space that looks like it came right out of a luxe hotel.

Instructions

1. Paint the walls a quintessentially feminine color -- pink or purple, for example. Choose a shade that speaks to your style, such as pastel for an understated country chic room, or a bold shade for a regal look. If purple and pink aren't colors for you, soft shades of yellow, green and blue also work to create a feminine design.

2. Select decorative pieces of furniture. A brass canopy bed or a wooden, four-poster bed is an ideal choice for this space. Other options include a bed with an over-sized upholstered headboard that features a solid-colored or printed fabric, matching the color scheme of the room or a headboard and foot board constructed of ornately carved wood. Bring in a vintage satin settee to create a seating area. A vanity with a small seat and a decorative mirror are other pieces of furniture that add a feminine touch to the space.

3. Incorporate luxurious linens in the space. Make the bed with satin or high-thread-count cotton sheets in a solid color that coordinates with the color scheme. Place a satin, velvet or brushed-cotton over-stuffed or goose down comforter on top of the sheets. Choose a comforter that features a solid color, or one with a feminine design, such as fleur de lis, toile or gingham. Hang floor-to-ceiling velvet or satin draperies or sheers on the windows to add a romantic look to the space.

4. Illuminate the room with a crystal, brass or brushed nickel chandelier and wall sconces.

5. Display images of romantic settings on the walls, such as a hillside full of flowers or the Eiffel Tower. Display these images in ornate picture frames.

6. Set candelabras and candlesticks topped with scented taper candles on dressers and bedside tables.

7. Fill decorative vases with fresh floral arrangements to add natural color and fragrance to the room.

8. Place a mirrored makeup tray with decorative perfume bottles, lotion bottles and a sterling silver brush on the vanity or on a dresser.
