Cover Stains On Dining Room Chairs

One stained chair can ruin the look of your entire dining set.

Stains on dining room chairs can be discouraging, especially if you don't catch them in time to spot wash them away and they have dried and permanently set into the fabric. Before you do serious damage trying to clean your dining room chair, investigate a few ways to creatively cover the stain.

Instructions

1. Use your child's accessories to cover the stain. If you have a growing baby or a toddler that needs a high chair or booster seat, instead of purchasing a freestanding model, install a chair model. The seat straps securely to your chairs and allows the child to use the table as a surface for eating. This way, the stain is covered by your child's seat.

2. Change the decor in your dining room and dye all of your chairs (including the stained chair) to match your new color scheme. You can purchase a dye kit at a home improvement store or a fabric store.

3. Change the chair's purpose. Unless you're hosting a dinner party or have a huge family, chances are you don't use all of the chairs at your dining room table anyway. Remove the offending chair and use it in your bedroom to drape clothing over; you can also use it in the bathroom to hold clean towels, in your living room to hold books that are waiting to be re-shelved, or as a plant stand. You can also use the stained chair to prop up a mid-length mirror.

4. Purchase chair cushions for some or all of your chairs, including the stained chair. Cushions not only make chairs more comfortable, but can be easily untied or removed for easy washing. They can also be flipped over for stains that are impossible to removed.

5. Purchase slipcovers. Unlike cushions, slip covers change the entire decor of a dining room table; you will have to purchase one for each chair in order to maintain the theme in your dining room. Slip covers can be purchased online, at furniture stores, fabric stores, home improvement stores and department stores, and come in an array of styles, colors and fabrics. You may want to buy a couple of different sets; one for everyday, one for formal occasions, and one for during the winter holiday season.
