Clean Kitchen & Bathroom Faucet Aerators

Low water pressure could be a sign of a dirty aerator. Clean the aerator before calling a plumber.

Mineral deposits in your water can build up and eventually clog your kitchen and bathroom faucet aerator. If you've noticed a change in water pressure or an erratic flow when you turn on the water, clean your kitchen or bathroom faucet aerators before looking for a more complicated problem. It's a good idea to periodically clean the aerators in your kitchen and bathroom faucets to keep your water flowing smoothly. Depending on the water quality in your city, you may need to clean the aerators more often.

Instructions

1. Wrap a washcloth or small rag around the aerator to protect it. Then use a pair of pliers to unscrew the aerator from the faucet.

2. Disassemble the aerator. Some aerators are more intricate than others but all have a screen, housing unit and body. Take note of how everything goes together so you can put it back together again.

3. Submerge all the parts in a bowl of white vinegar. Let the parts soak overnight.

4. Scrub all the parts with a toothbrush.

5. Reassemble the aerator and screw it back onto the faucet.
