Decorate Slanting Walls In A Bedroom

When decorating a bedroom, keep in mind that it will be used primarily for sleeping, sex and gentle relaxation. The ideal bedroom décor should help you accomplish all of these tasks well. A bedroom with slanting walls can feel cramped and unpleasant and may make it difficult to sleep peacefully. Help open up the walls and make the most of any bedroom space with a few simple decorating tricks.

Instructions

1. Slanting walls can create a feeling of claustrophobia. Combat this feeling with neutral colors on the walls. Paint walls a soft white such as Navaho white. Toss pastel-colored pillows on the bed. Use white painted furniture. Place a thick fluffy rug on the floor. Add a skylight to bring in more light if the bedroom is on the top floor.

2. Turn the bedroom into a starry retreat. Use a star and astronomy theme as inspiration. Paint constellations on one wall. Purchase bedding with prints of the moon on them. Add a canopy on the top of the bed to help create the illusion of peering through a cloudy night sky.

3. Commission specially designed shelves to fit in the eaves. They should slide in and out to make it easy to access items. Add built-in bookshelves and a window seat to create a cozy reading corner and additional storage. Use the area below the window seat to store clothing. Avoid tall furniture if the attic has low ceilings. This can make it feel cramped. Consider purchasing a captain's bed to add additional storage. Add detail and storage capacity simultaneously by placing a cedar chest at the foot of the bed.

4. Create a canopy on one side. A canopy can make any space feel cozier and warmer. Slanting walls can make this task easier. Place the bed against a wall. Tape a row of fabric tape to the top of the adjacent wall. Fasten a length of fabric against the tape. The fabric should reach to the floor. Use gauzy fabric to create an ethereal feeling. Use thicker fabric to create the feel of a room within a room.

5. Use wallpaper in a light color with a very small repeating pattern. This will help open the space and make it feel larger. The wallpaper pattern should tie in with the rest of the room décor.
