Decorating Ideas For A Loft Bedroom

Loft bedrooms present some challenges for interior design.

A loft apartment offers wide-open spaces, high ceilings and in many cases large windows. The light and airy atmosphere of a loft apartment is attractive to many, but the open style does present some challenges. The single large area of the loft apartment must serve as the living area, bedroom, kitchen and dining area. You can arrange your apartment in a way that separates the bedroom from the rest of the living area and gives the impression of a different room.

Privacy

Privacy in the bedroom area is one area of concern for most inhabitants of loft apartments. You can set the room apart with a few different techniques that offer privacy while you are in the bedroom. Room dividers can create a bedroom out of the open space and provide privacy while you are in the bedroom. You can set the room dividers open when you are not using the bedroom to open up the area as well. Room dividers or screens are available in various designs to coordinate with the d cor of your apartment.

Storage

Storage can be a concern for a loft bedroom. In a loft apartment, it is essential to keep the various living spaces neat and organized. The apartment can quickly spiral out of control if you don't store your belongings away. Wardrobes, dressers and bureaus keep clothing stored away in the bedroom area of the apartment. Under the bed storage helps to keep the area open and airy. A cluttered loft loses its airy feeling.

Wall Colors

When the bedroom is open to the rest of the apartment, you must use wall colors to coordinate with the rest of the apartment. You can use different colors for the bedroom, but it must not become a distraction in the rest of the apartment. A bold color behind the bed can serve as a headboard when slanted ceilings limit your ability to use furnishings in the room.

Window Treatments

The large open windows in a loft are one of the best features of this style apartment. Arranging the bedroom near one of these large windows allows you to enjoy the view from your bed. You should cover the windows with blinds to block the sunlight if you sleep in later in the morning.

Area Rugs

Use area rugs near your bed in the bedroom area to create a comfortable bedroom appearance in this area of the loft. Area rugs also keep your feet warm when you get out of bed in the morning.

Furniture Arrangement

Arrange the bed, nightstands and dressers in an arrangement just as you would in a separate bedroom. The arrangement of furniture clearly defines the area as the bedroom in the open space environment. Keep the bedroom area neat if it is visible to the rest of the apartment.
