The cottage look is easy to achieve once you know best use fabric, furniture and textures.

Instructions

1. Select a color palette that promotes comfort. Warm colors promote relaxation and are welcoming. Colors such as gold, green, yellow and red are often used in cottage decors. Incorporate splashes of white and blue for added interest.

2. Hang window treatments that are light and move with the wind. Select colors that are already in your bedroom. You may want to use a green striped window treatment to match a floral pattern on your duvet cover. Tabbed panels that match shades in your bedroom will create a soft mood.

3. Select furniture pieces in traditional woods, such as pine and oak. Distressed furniture fits into this comfortable atmosphere easily. Iron is another option that works well with this look. Look for vintage wall decor, such as mirrors and frames.

4. Mix traditional looks with modern ones. Use quilts on your bed along with modern sconces on your wall to create a look that is eclectic with a cottage feel. Use items embellished with lace and contemporary vases to create interest in your bedroom.

5. Accessorize with natural textures. Wicker baskets and jute rugs give your room a nice touch while also being functional.

6. Add flower arrangements to brighten your bedroom and give it a sense of peace.
