Decorating The Top Of A Bedroom Dresser

A decorative box reduces clutter and enhances the dresser top.

The top of the bedroom dresser is one of the most visible areas of the room, but it often acts as a magnet for clutter. Create an inspiring and lively focal point for the room by giving the top of the dresser dimension and movement. Use interior design tactics to engage all of the senses. The top of the bedroom dresser may serve as an inspiring decorative area, as well as being functional.

Instructions

1. Center the dresser scarf or runner on the dresser so that it covers the dresser top from left to right. This works well to decorate and protect either a new dresser or to cover a dresser that shows some wear and tear.

2. Set the decorative box on the side of the dresser that corresponds to your dominant hand, where it's most convenient to reach for it. For example, if you're right-handed, place the box on the right side of the dresser as you stand facing it. The box serves a decorative and practical purpose--concealing loose items such as watches, change and jewelry and keeping the dresser top uncluttered.

3. Set the fountain on the left side of the dresser (or on the right side if you're left-handed).

4. Arrange cut flowers in the vase in a loose, informal bouquet. Mixed flowers work well, but you can also select one flower that goes with the room, such as pink roses for a pink room or calla lilies for a cream room.

5. Stand the vase between the box and the fountain in the middle of the top of the dresser. If the dresser top is narrow, put the vase as far toward the back of the dresser as possible to leave room for the candle.

6. Add a short pillar candle on a saucer centered in front of the vase. Put a hurricane glass over the candle to protect the candle flame.
