Tuscan bathrooms are inspired by the warm tones and textures of Italy's Tuscany region.
If you are seeking a touch of Mediterranean glamour and classical design in your bathroom, a Tuscan-themed design may be just what you need. A great way to add Tuscan flair is to paint the bathroom in a classical warm color that reflects the style. With a touch of Tuscan accessories, your bathroom can become just the retreat you're looking for.
Instructions
1. Choose a paint color that matches your home and is reflective of the Tuscan style. The Tuscan color palette features the colors of nature, including warm colors inspired by the Earth and sun, such terra cotta or gold.
2. Measure the square footage of each bathroom wall and add the values together. Estimate how many coats of paint you will need. Dark colors generally require three coats of paint, but lighter colors need only one or two coats. Use the square footage guidelines on the paint can to determine how much paint you will need.
3. Prepare the bathroom for painting by removing clutter and as much of the contents as possible, including items such as switchplates, towel bars, toilet-paper holders, mirrors and decorative hardware. Then, use painter's tape to cover the edges of all surfaces that you do not want to be painted. Cover the floor with a drop cloth.
4. Paint each of the bathroom walls in the chosen Tuscan-style color. Outline the room first using the paintbrush to paint all edges and small areas. Paint the larger areas by dipping the paint roller into the paint in a painter's tray. Apply it to the wall by painting in the shape of a "W" throughout the area until it is fully covered. Repeat the process for each coat of paint, allowing the first coat to dry before applying the next one. Clean up using paper towels and/or rags.
5. Remove the painter's tape by pulling away from the surface at a 45-degree angle. Replace the bathroom's contents and hardware. Add Tuscan-style decor to complement your new paint color, such as scrolled ironwork or Mediterranean accessories, and towels that carry out the new color scheme.
