Decorate A Romantic Bedroom With Antique Furniture

Use antique furniture in warm tones to create a romantic feel for a bedroom.

A bedroom should be a retreat and a sanctuary, a place apart from the rest of the world. It can also be a romantic place where you and your mate take time to renew the bonds that brought you together. To create that special, romantic environment, use furnishings that appeal to all five senses. Add soft colors that invite you to relax, subdued lighting that soothes the nerves, and antique furniture that suggests luxury.

Instructions

1. Choose a paint color. Neutral colors are relaxing and make a good background to highlight antique furniture.

2. Include an antique bed to give the room a romantic, Victorian look, or choose a quality wood sleigh bed that invites you to recline and relax. An antique four-poster with curtains can provide a ready-made retreat for couples. You could also use an antique wicker headboard, end tables or a dressing table. It's best, however, not to use all of the wicker items together. You want to avoid the look of a matched set.

3. Use thick, luxurious fabrics. A floral-print bedspread lends a romantic feel. Formal drapes provide privacy. Brocade fabrics give a feeling of richness and elegance and typically work well with the traditional look of antiques.

4. Place antique mirrors with rich gold frames on the walls to give the room reflected light and depth.

5. Hang antique wall sconces for subtle lighting and elegance.

6. Add paintings that include romantic and tranquil settings. Use paintings or prints that depict the historic periods of antiques used in the room.

7. Pile pillows on the bed. Use fabrics in old-fashioned florals or tapestry designs to highlight antique furnishings.

8. Enhance your room with candles or incense. Place candles around the room to create soft lighting that recalls the by-gone era of your antiques.

Add scent to your romantic bedroom with incense, cologne, or perfume. Use an incense burner, scented candles, or a bit of cologne or perfume applied to light fixtures.
