1. Paint the walls an earth tone such as cream, tan or reddish brown, depending on how dark you want the room. Paint trim and ceilings a contrasting earth-toned color, such as a darker brown to frame the walls. As an alternative to paint, consider replacing some of the bedroom walls with wood paneling.
2. Purchase good-quality wood furniture and accents, preferably from Indonesia or another South Asian country.
