Many homeowners don't want to tackle plumbing, but installing a bathroom commode is not extremely difficult. Installing a commode is approximately the same for all brands and models; they all need a water supply and a drain.
Instructions
1. Slip the commode bolts into the drain flange on the bathroom floor. Position them so they will slip through slots on the commode bowl.
2. Turn the bowl upside down and secure the wax ring around the drain hole in the bottom of the bowl with the flange sticking up. For more on wax rings with flanges, see Reference. Press down enough to secure the wax ring to the commode without deforming the wax.
3. Lift the commode bowl and set it on the flange of the drain on the bathroom floor. Align the wax ring and the commode bolts with the commode as you set it in place. Apply some pressure until the bowl hits the bathroom floor all the way around the perimeter. Slip the washer and nut that came with the commode bolts on the end of the commode bolts and tighten them down with the crescent wrench (or pliers).
4. Install the tank kit as specified on the package. Be certain to install the washers in the correct place on the tank bolts. This will prevent the water in the tank from leaking after it is installed.
5. Install the tank to the bowl by slipping the tank bolts through the holes provided in the bowl. Pay close attention to the placement of the ring between the tank and the bowl. Holding the tank in place, slip the washers and nuts over the tank bolts and tighten them down with the crescent wrench. If you don't have a crescent wrench (or pliers).
6. Connect the water supply line to the bottom of the flush valve. Be careful not to over-tighten the nut, because it will cause damage to the threads and cause a leak. If it leaks anyway, remove it and apply some Teflon tape to the threads and reinstall the supply line.
7. Turn the water supply on and let the tank fill. If the water doesn't fill to the fill line on the inside of the tank, adjust the flush valve according to the manufacturer's instructions.
