Decorate A Bedroom In A Tropical Theme

Bedrooms are probably the most personal rooms in a house. Your bedroom should be a place for you to relax after a stressful day. It should feel like a soothing retreat. Create that feeling of serenity by decorating your bedroom in a tropical theme that conjures up soft ocean breezes, gently swaying palm trees, fragrant flowers and the feel of the warm sun on your skin.

Instructions

1. Select a theme for your look. Perhaps you want a vibrant tropical garden, complete with brightly colored flowers and birds. Or maybe you want a soothing beach scene that focuses on sand and seashells.

2. Choose colors for the bedroom. Select colors from the palate of a tropical scene. Warm, rich oranges and yellows, for example, or clear turquoise and peachy sand.

3. Paint the walls with a color from your tropical palate. Sprinkle some sand into your paint or purchase pre-sanded paint at a home improvement store.

4. Purchase bed linens in a tropical pattern or layer colors to create the same effect. Stick with lighter fabrics. For example, white bed linens with a sheer blue overlay feels fresh and clean like the beach.

5. Decorate the window. For a rustic look, hang a piece of driftwood over the window. Install a thin, unobtrusive curtain rod under the driftwood and hang sheer white curtain panels from it.

6. Add accessories. A beat-up surfboard hanging on the wall looks terrific in a boy's tropical themed bedroom. A pretty glass bowl full of polished seashells adds a feminine touch to a girl's bedroom. Paint a mural of a giant palm tree on the wall if you are an artist, or line a shelf with colorful silk tropical plants. Finally, place a stuffed parrot on the bed for a whimsical touch.
