Design A Bathroom For A Man

Designing a bathroom for a man

Men and women have different needs in the bathroom. Women, for example, tend to require more storage space for products such as makeup and face creams, while men may find a bathroom more functional if they can easily get at their toiletries. Designing a bathroom specifically for a man, therefore, will require attention to masculine tastes and needs.

Instructions

1. Paint the room in a neutral color such as black or beige, as this will give the impression of a cleaner room with a masculine edge. Avoid flowers and pastel colors that tend to have a feminine association.

2. Fit the bathroom with flooring that contains a pattern in colors like gray, beige and brown. Ceramic or stone tile is preferable because it is attractive and easy to clean, and patterned tile will hide dirt and hair well. If it coordinates well with your tile and wall coloring, choose an off-white, gray or brown grout to hide soap scum and mildew. White grout will look dirty quickly.

3. Attach a power shower to the faucet to increase the water pressure. If space allows, install a whirlpool tub with jets or even a cast-iron claw foot tub to give the room a retro feel.

4. Choose a deep-set basin to easily accommodate a man's larger hands for face washing, brushing teeth and shaving.

5. Add heated towel racks near the tub or shower for easy access to warmed towels. Provide a waste basket near the sink for disposal of items like used razor blades. Store a laundry basket in the closet or turn a deep drawer in the vanity into a basket for soiled clothes.

6. Install a toilet with a comfortable cushioned seat and avoid frilly items like toilet seat covers. If space allows, consider installing a urinal.

7. Mount a small flat-screen TV on the wall for viewing while in the tub or on the "throne" and add a mini fridge to store products like supplements and protein or energy shakes.
