More Cupboard Space To A Small Kitchen & Dining Area

Add More Cupboard Space to a Small Kitchen & Dining Area

Even the smallest kitchen may have surprises when it comes to finding more storage space. Maximize the available space to make additional storage areas. Assess wasted space, and rearrange to prioritize items that are used the most.

Instructions

1. Add an island or kitchen cart if there's room. This provides the kitchen with additional work surface and cupboard space below.

2. Add a cupboard above the refrigerator. Measure for one that will go all the way to the ceiling for maximum storage space. It's also possible to stack two cupboards right on the refrigerator. This is a good option for renters, or where the wall condition isn't good for installing a cupboard.

3. Check all the wall space for any place a cupboard might fit. Kitchen cupboards come in a wide array of sizes. It may be possible to install one above a window, or in narrow area. Install what will fit without crowding the space.

4. Adjust shelves and add kitchen organizers to cupboards. Consumer Reports recommends: "Cabinet organizers-including pull-out shelves and lazy Susans-offer quick, affordable ways to maximize kitchen storage and reduce clutter." Attach racks insides lower cupboard doors. Add mini standing shelves and corner shelves.

5. Clear clutter. Give away items that aren't used often. Anything catching dust in the back of cupboards represents wasted space.
