Modern Teen Bedroom Decorating Inspiration

When planning out the d cor for your teen space, take a break from the traditional and try a more modern concept. To get inspiration for your too-cool-to-be-true space, look around and take in some of the exciting prints and creative hue combinations that can be found within society. In doing so, you can develop an inspired decorating plan and make your teen's room one of a kind.

Architectural Inspiration

Take inspiration from intricate architecture to create a teen's room that is beyond parallel. Gather images of architectural pieces from your community or classic ones like the Eiffel Tower. Look carefully at the pictures for patterns to use in your space. Decorate your room in hues similar to those found on your architectural inspiration piece. For example, use shades of gray if creating a design based on a metal structure. Trace some of the shapes or patterns found in the architectural piece onto the wall, or use a jigsaw to cut the headboard or mirror surround into those shapes, and place them in your teen's space.

Modern Art Piece Catalyst

Base your teen's modern room on a piece of modern art. Select a modern art piece that appeals to your teen, and buy a large print. Use the hues in the art piece in your room d cor. For example, if the piece you select features yellows and blacks, make these the dominant colors in your teen's room. Hang the print on your wall, or recreate it on an accent wall in a larger scale.

Poster Room Theme

Select a contemporary poster for a band or movie your teen adores, and allow it to inspire your space. Take shapes from the poster, and place them on your teen's wall or select a bedspread featuring those shapes. For example, if the poster features bold circles, create a border of circles around the room. Place this inspiring poster centrally in the room to show what inspired the space.

Pattern Echoing

Seek inspiration at a craft or fabric store. Venture to the fabric or art supply store with your teen, and allow her to select a fabric or piece of scrapbook paper with a pattern that appeals to her. Purchase sheets or yards of the inspiring material and use it in the space, creating bedding or using it to cover surfaces like photo frames. Pull out dominant colors from the pattern your teen selected, and cover the walls with the hues or purchase a rug in one or both of the colors to finish the space.
